About The Project

The Chirp Contour is an automated massage table designed to mimic premium grade massages in at home setting. This project took place from 2022-2025. On the project I was part of a design team of 5, working on the feel, rolling motion, integration of the switchable rollers, and overall functionality of the device.

Creating Professional Grade Relief at Home

There are a myriad of massage and pain relief devices on the market. What doesn't exist is a whole lot of customizability. What lacks from all these machines that exists in a natural massage is customization and catering to the client. The goal of the Contour was to create an at-home-experience that had the same level of personalization that one would get from a chiropractor or a massage therapist.

Internals & Process

The Contour features three preset modes: warm-up, recovery, and relax. Beyond this there is then adjustable features in track length to account for people of different heights, customizable heat levels, and three different sets of rollers internally. By switching out these rollers, one can feel different levels of massage intensity and style.

During the design process, many prototypes were made of different wheels and materials to best mimic different massage types. From skateboard wheels to fake fingers, dozens of prototypes were designed and tested by our team and potential users to see what felt and worked best.
